It does you no good to have a business with no method of effectively delivering information about your product or service to the public.

The internet has become a huge medium to advertise and promote an online business, but like many other forms of marketing only an elite few know how to effectively utilize this technology. Building a thriving business on the internet can be extremely fast and extremely cost effective, but it can also be the most frustrating, as things that normally would work in offline marketing, online marketers have little or even no success using these strategies when on the internet.

The Internet is an informational resource FIRST. You have to understand that the internet was originally invented to deliver information to the end user, not to generate paychecks for business people. So before you experience any success on the internet, you have to first add content to the internet. Preferably content about your particular product or service. In order to achieve this goal, many would be successful entrepreneurs build a website, promoting their particular product or service, and hope that this one small action will bring them millions and millions of dollars in sales. Its a proven fact that this method does not work. Building a website is a great idea, but its only one tool you should be using in your arsenal.

Like in the real world, you must constantly be in touch with your contacts. This includes putting as much about yourself and your business on the Internet as possible. This is done to brand yourself as a professional, to get people to trust who you are, and what it is your trying to promote. This is usually done by writing articles, utilizing traffic exchanges, investing in some PPC, and building a targeted opt-in list of prospects. A website is a great step in the right direction, and can get you some of the extra exposure you need, but its not the only thing you should be doing. Self branding and making people aware of your product is a huge undertaking, and you need to be working on promoting your product or service every day.

Much like investing in the stock market in real life, investing in a business on the internet is basically the same. You want to diversify your investment to protect it, and have many different income streams working for you. Top network marketers and MLMers are not just on the top of a single company, but many. The guru's who are making all the money spread their marketing efforts wide, and build income streams from multiple sources.

When the MLM juggernaut Excel went out of business a few years back, it hurt the majority of its distributors. This is because these distributors put everything they had into ONE income stream, and when it went out of business, the income stopped. The top marketers in Excel had other income streams as well. Many had build downlines in many other companies, and Excel going out of business, did not hurt their profits very much.

This is how you want to position yourself. When you market yourself first, people buy your products and invest in your opportunities because of you, not because of what you are promoting. This allows you to diversify your business portfolio while at the same time diversifying your income streams. It also multiplies your efforts. Because your excitement and your mastery of marketing rubs off, and people who you bring into your circle of influence will duplicate what you do and in turn, achieve comparable levels of success.

The key to high speed business building is to constantly put yourself in the public view. Do as much as you can to get as many people to see you and your product as you can. And the result will be success. Success in the home-based business industry is not whoever has the best products and services, its about who is able to get more people to see what it is they are promoting, and what it is they are doing.
